About Gwladys
Needing to know about and understand everything, I am a jack of all trades! Passionate about pedagogy, psychology and anthropology as well as medical science, I spend most of my free time researching and writing. Creative writer, painter, and musician, Arts and crafts are a way of life for me. As a neurodivergent individual experiencing intense and overpowering emotions, music is my way of regulating those. As a result, I compose, sing, and play (fairly poorly!) strings (violin, guitar and piano).

Native French speaker who studied French Literature (Lettres Modernes) at La Sorbonne Nouvelle and at the selective Classes Préparatoire aux Grandes Ecoles, I can offer French lessons to all students. With a C2 level (proficiency) fluency in English, I enjoy just as much initiating children to the French Language or teaching French to adult learners who want to discover a new language, prepare for a trip to France, or build up their fluency.
Born, raised and educated in Paris, I have also lived in various parts of France as an adult, including Paris, the French Riviera, the Loire Valley, Bordeaux and Brittany. I will happily explain local variations to French culture, or give you tips on how to make the most of your time in France. In addition to language lessons, having trained at university level in History, Geography, Latin or Philosophy as well during my time in Hypokhâgne (Classe Préparatoire aux Grandes Ecoles), I will also happily provide French culture and French literature lessons to those who wish to gain a wider understanding of the French language, France and French people.
Catering to the specific needs and requests of my students, I will adapt to both your learning goals and your learning style. As an alternative to traditional lessons and tutoring sessions, I can design a tailored French program for you around your interests and your learning style. My goal is for you to enjoy every second of it, and be a guide to your immersion into French so that French comes as a second nature for you. If your preference goes for a more formal way of learning, what is left of my time learning Latin and etymology should let me help you shine some light on the complexities of the French language while relying on written and visual content to enhance your understanding and memorisation.
While no one would be able to notice it nowadays, I am dyslexic. Due to being gifted with far above average reasoning skills and having received intervention as a child, I luckily was able to compensate for it. The neurodivergence that seemed like an impediment in my childhood turned into one of my greatest strengths, as my brain bubbles with creativity, and finding different ways to explain things comes naturally to me, having first had to do so for myself.
Throughout primary and secondary school teachers saw my academic level and my calm demeanour as a chance to support struggling students in their progress, and to instil some social skills in me. The improbable pairing has been the first occasion for me to realise that I had a taste for trying to simplify complex lessons. I found it extremely satisfying to witness their newfound confidence as they were suddenly understanding something they thought they never would understand.
Through tutoring, I came to realise that those who struggled to understand something in class did so because they had met difficulties in learning something at some point, and had not received the support they needed, which resulted in them losing confidence in their ability to learn. It was as if their brain had given up on trying and any concept sounded more complex to them than it really was, just due to an internalised belief that they were not capable.
As I had been down the same path earlier in my life, I knew that I could use the skills I developed for myself and help them regain confidence. Those amazing experiences fueled my passion for teaching and developing new learning strategies. If you're a visual and/or kinesthetic learner, I will be able to best support you in meeting your targets.
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” Benjamin Franklin
Having volunteered as an active listener for an online emotional support service, and being currently enrolled in an LV4 in counselling, I am warm and approachable and able to put at ease introverts and anxious learners. If you have any additional needs, learning specificities, or particular learning targets, feel free to contact me to discuss any adjustment that would suit you best.
I offer a 20 minutes free online session for you to explore if my teaching meets your learning style and for me to evaluate if I am the right teacher for you. I believe that nothing can replace a good student/tutor dynamic and will not take on a student for whom I am not a suitable tutor.
My online lessons take place on Miro, an online whiteboard application that enables us to conduct fully interactive lessons with audio and video simultaneously. At the end of each lesson you can download the PDF of our lesson, as it appears on the app, for free. I chose this platform to enable my students to both participate and understand as much as possible during our lessons, but also so they can come back to the lesson at any time by keeping a PDF of it.
After the free taster lesson my standard rate is £25/45 mins for online lessons. For in-person lessons, the fee is the same if the lesson takes place at my address but will need to be discussed depending on travel time if you wish for me to come to you.
I am looking forward to teaching you the most beautiful language in the world, and hopefully in an enjoyable way that never leaves you the impression that you have to put any effort towards it.
A bientôt!
