About Tilia

I’m a 23-year-old Master’s student in Hobart, studying Marine and Antarctic Science. I was born in Germany and have lived internationally throughout my life, including in New Zealand, Italy, Norway, Vietnam and the Netherlands.

Having learned and spoken several languages myself, I understand first-hand how intimidating it can feel to communicate in a new language. I want my lessons to be a space where students feel comfortable making mistakes and gaining confidence. I believe an accent is evidence that you have learned another language — not something to be embarrassed about. Rather than striving for “perfect” pronunciation, I focus on helping students communicate naturally and confidently.

Languages have always been an important part of my life. Alongside being a native German and English speaker, I speak Italian fluently and Dutch, and I hold a five-year Latin qualification. I have also studied classical voice since I was 16, specializing in opera, which has given me a particular interest in pronunciation, expression and the way we use language.

My international background has taught me that there is no single “right” way to learn a language. I therefore aim to adapt my teaching to the individual student, whether your goal is improving your German for school, university, work, travel or simply becoming more confident in conversation.

About the lesson

As a native German speaker with an international and multilingual background, I tailor my lessons to each student’s individual needs, level and goals. I aim to create a supportive and practical learning environment where students can build confidence in using German.

- German culture and everyday language
- Building confidence and fluency

My approach:
Lessons are adapted to your current level and learning goals. We can focus on structured grammar and exercises, informal conversation, written work, or a combination of these depending on what you need.

Lessons:
I offer both face-to-face and online tutoring and welcome students of different ages and ability levels, from beginners to more advanced German learners.
