About Oscar
I was born and raised in Hong Kong and moved to the United States when I was 12 years old. Growing up in two completely different education systems and cultures has shaped who I am today. I understand both the structure and discipline of Hong Kong schooling and the creativity and openness of the American system. Because of this, I see myself as a bridge between Hong Kong and America, helping students understand not only the language but also the cultural mindset behind it.
I graduated from University of California, Irvine with a degree in Data Science and was actively involved in the Hong Kong student community on campus. I am passionate about sharing Hong Kong culture, language, and identity with others, and I hope to inspire students to connect more deeply with Cantonese and the traditions behind it.

Rather than going through rigid textbook style lessons and memorizing vocabulary lists that you may never use in real life, my classes focus on practical, everyday Cantonese the way it is actually spoken in Hong Kong. As a native Hong Kong speaker, I teach natural expressions, accurate tones, and real conversational flow that locals use daily, not overly formal or outdated phrases.
In our lessons, we learn through real life situations, authentic dialogue, and clips inspired by classic Hong Kong TV dramas from TVB. We also explore Hong Kong culture, food, traditions, and important festivals such as the Lunar New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival. You will understand not just the language, but also the cultural meaning behind it, including how locals greet elders, order food at a cha chaan teng, celebrate holidays, and express emotions naturally.
My goal is to help you build confidence, think in Cantonese, and truly connect with Hong Kong culture through real conversation and practical usage.
