About Greta

I tutored students in languages, helped with study methods, and I've been quite the critic for proofreading essays. I always enjoyed teaching, whether it was for my cousin struggling with English classes or students in middle school and high school for maths, English, and French. Finally, in summer 2024, I worked as a teacher for an international summer school in London. It was fulfilling to see the results they achieved, and to know that part of it was just me guiding them and making them feel confident in their own heads.
I studied tourism in high school (Italy) and then moved to England for my undergraduate studies in International Relations and Diplomacy, ending up in Edinburgh for my Master's in Criminology and International Security. I have been working at the international summer school every summer after 2024, but this time as academic coordinator and welfare, while working as a personal assistant from Italy the rest of the year. I keep teaching as a part-time hobby when I have free time available, and I would like to remain in the academic field in the future, possibly continuing learning and (maybe) research. This will all depend on my future self and her decisions. We will see.
I am meeting a lot of smart and interesting students of all ages, from whom I learn a lot (even more than I teach them, the majority of the time), about life too! I opened this profile saying about myself that sometimes I thought of I wanted to keep pursuing the path I chose, but at the same time I wanted to work for Vogue and National Geographic, as well as going straight for plan B: a nice farm near a beach in Liguria. Overall, I am decisive, sometimes. (Unfortunately for my savings,) I am now planning a completely different path, which will be an interesting adventure to add to this introduction of me in the future! If it goes through :)
What I do have for sure right now is a wide range of good examples to help understand concepts, and I'm not bad at tutoring!

About the lesson

Based on what are your expectations, I can tailor different lessons and methods. If the necessity is just to learn a language, maybe for a holiday, to impress someone, or just because you want to learn a romantic and very descriptive language, then it's all about basics and a lot of speaking. Unless you want to become a writer, knowing how to ask for a glass of water with your coffee is way more useful. I prepare each lesson with different topics. Verbs in Italian are very hard to remember, but we'll go through the ones that are mostly used, leaving Congiuntivo for when the basics are learnt, and you feel confident enough to perfect your delivery. You guys really need to know about Congiuntivo, not even Italians know that—... and it's not good. Also, I know you know curse words. I can teach you nicer ones (that won't give you a medal in Veneto, sorry) that do the job in a less rude way. Kill them with kindness, they say.

I create my own materials, usually inspired by my personal archives of exercises and grammar books. Grammar and exercises will be useful for you to keep active between lessons, and to understand how sentences work. So yes, we will speak, but first you need to learn how, and if you understand the logic behind the sentence, it is way easier than learning everything by heart! I sometimes give exercises for the next lesson, but if you have no time for homeworks it is not a problem: we will repeat concepts over and over again.
