About Ryota
I'm Ryota, from Hyogo in western Japan, living in Brighton since last year.
I'm a software engineer by trade, so I tend to approach things in an organised way — you'll get a plan, and I'll turn up prepared. But I'm also someone learning a language the hard way right now. My English is still very much in progress, and I know exactly what it's like to know the word and not be able to get it out.
That combination is what I bring: a bit of structure, and a lot of patience for the part where it doesn't come out right yet.

Lessons are 60 minutes, one to one, for adults and older teens — complete beginners up to around JLPT N3. Aiming for N2 or N1? I'm not your guy, and I'd rather say that now.
The first lesson is free. Instead of opening a textbook straight away, we figure out what you actually want to do, and by when — order properly in a Tokyo restaurant in March, talk to your partner's family, pass N4 in December. Then I write you a short plan to get there and send it over. Yours to keep either way.
After that, each lesson mixes conversation with whatever grammar you need next, plus the pronunciation bits textbooks tend to skip. You'll leave knowing what to work on next, and we'll adjust the plan as we go.
I'm a native speaker from Hyogo and a software engineer, not a career teacher. I moved here last year and I'm still battling with English myself, so I know the feeling of understanding a rule perfectly and still freezing when someone talks to you.
