About Susie

Hi! I'm a native Japanese teacher from Japan, and I've been living in Alberta, Canada for 14 years. Over the years, I've taught more than 1,700hours+ of Japanese online to students ranging from complete beginners to JLPT N3 level. And honestly, what keeps me going is the joy I feel every time a student has that "I can do it!" moment.

Teaching Japanese isn't just a job for me. Watching my students grow, whether they say their first Japanese sentence, pass a JLPT exam, or finally understand a line from their favourite anime, genuinely makes my day.

Outside of teaching, I love hiking, discovering great food, travelling, and reading novels and manga. So if you want real, natural Japanese that goes beyond textbooks, you're in the right place.

About the lesson

My lessons are 45-minute online sessions on Google Meet, designed for learners aged 15 and up — from complete beginners to JLPT N3 level.

What makes my approach different
Rather than just memorizing grammar rules, I guide you step by step so you can actually use Japanese from day one. Every lesson is interactive and built around your goals, whether that's travel, daily conversation, JLPT preparation, or simply enjoying Japanese culture more deeply. I adapt the pace, topics, and materials to fit you — not the other way around.

What a typical lesson looks like
Each session is structured to balance review, new learning, and real practice:

・Review and speaking practice from the previous lesson
・New grammar and vocabulary with clear, simple explanations
・Guided conversation and sentence building
・Personalized notes and exercises saved in Google Docs

You'll always have access to the Google Docs from our lessons, so reviewing and tracking your progress is easy — anytime, anywhere.

Materials
I primarily use trusted resources like Minna no Nihongo and Sou Matome, but every lesson is tailored to your level and interests. If you're learning Japanese for an upcoming trip, we can focus on practical phrases and real-life situations you'll actually encounter — from ordering food to asking for directions.
