About Yu

I am a native Chinese speaker and a current postgraduate student at the University of Sydney, with several years of tutoring experience. Before focusing on Chinese, I spent about three years independently teaching English in Chinese, which helps me explain grammar and vocabulary in a way that Chinese-speaking learners find clear and logical. My teaching style is professional, structured and friendly. I plan each lesson carefully so you know what we are learning and how it fits your goals, whether that is speaking, exams, work or everyday communication. I pay attention to pronunciation, tones and correct usage, but I also create a relaxed atmosphere where you feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. You can expect me to be punctual, well-prepared and responsive. I regularly give feedback, adjust the pace to suit you, and track your progress over time. My aim is to help you build real confidence using Chinese in practical, real-life situations.

About the lesson

I offer personalised, one-to-one online Chinese (Mandarin) lessons designed to help you build real, usable language skills, not just memorise words. My teaching style is structured but relaxed: I start by understanding your goals (exam, work, travel or daily conversation), then design a clear lesson plan with step-by-step progress.

A typical lesson is 60 minutes and usually includes:

a short warm-up review of previous content,

clear explanation of key grammar and vocabulary,

guided speaking and listening practice using real-life scenarios,

targeted correction with simple explanations,

a brief summary and optional homework so you know exactly what to revise.

I mainly teach in Chinese to build your immersion and confidence, but I can switch to English support whenever needed, especially for beginners or students who feel more comfortable clarifying concepts in English.

I am a native Chinese speaker and a current postgraduate student at the University of Sydney, with around three years of experience teaching in Chinese as an independent tutor. My lessons are suitable for teenagers, university students and adult learners from beginner to upper-intermediate level, including those who want to improve speaking, pronunciation, grammar, or reading and writing in Chinese.
