About Yuri
Hi, I'm Yuri.
I teach Chinese because I love it. I'm a native speaker who's kept up a writing habit for years, and I love the more expressive, literary kind of writing. And I'm the person who always knows which meme or phrase is going around Chinese social media right now. Having lived in many different parts of China, I've seen how the local peoples, customs and ways of life shape the language differently from region to region. To me, teaching is a way to share the culture behind the words, not just what's in a textbook, and there's nothing better than watching someone start to sound like themselves in a whole new language.

My lessons are conversation-first and built around whatever you're curious about. For speaking, we talk from day one: real situations, the slang and phrases people genuinely use, gentle fixes on your tones as we go. For writing, we start wherever you like, everyday messages and journaling, or, if it excites you, we go further into style, rhythm and writing something that actually sounds like you. If you're aiming for HSK, I'll fold in the vocab, grammar and past papers you need, including the writing sections. Lessons are usually 60 minutes (90 also fine), relaxed and paced to suit adult learners at any level, from total beginners to people coming back to it or preparing for exams.
