About Elina

Hi, I'm Elina — a native Russian speaker, filmmaker and director. I spend my working life telling stories on screen, and I bring the same instinct into lessons: language sticks when it's part of a story you actually care about, not a grammar table.

I haven't come to teaching through a linguistics degree. I've come to it through actually learning languages myself. Russian is my native language, but I speak English, French, Latvian and German too, all picked up by using them, not by memorising rules. I know what it feels like to freeze up mid-sentence, and I know what actually gets you past that: talking, a lot, about things you're genuinely interested in.

That's what my lessons are built around, and I want them to feel like the best part of your evening, not one more thing on the to-do list. We'll talk about your day, a film you've just watched, a book you're stuck halfway through, and I'll bring in the vocabulary and structure as it comes up naturally, instead of front-loading grammar before you're allowed to say anything real. Think of it as a relaxed, low-pressure hour that still moves you forward.

Whether you are a total beginner or someone who can hold a conversation but wants it to feel more natural, I'd love to meet you for a free trial lesson (adults and older teens, 16+). We'll talk about what you want Russian for, and take it from there.

Practical grammar comes in as we need it, not as a subject on its own. Think relaxed, unwind-after-work sessions rather than must do chore. Like a hobby, with real progress underneath. I shape each lesson around your goals
