About Lorena

I am Lorena, a bilingual educator and psychologist originally from Barranquilla, Colombia, now living in Newton, MA. I have a degree in Psychology from Universidad del Norte and a Specialist degree in Pedagogy and Teaching. I have been teaching for over eleven years across preschool, elementary, high school, and university levels in both Colombia and the United States, including two years in US classrooms. I currently work at a public middle school in Newton and am pursuing my Massachusetts educator license. Beyond the classroom I have worked privately with children and adults of all ages and levels, providing one on one tutoring in Spanish and English tailored to each student’s individual needs and goals. I am a mother, I genuinely love working with children and families, and I bring that warmth into every lesson I teach.

About the lesson

Spanish is my first language and I have been teaching it for over eleven years, from preschool children to university students, in Colombia and the United States. But what makes my lessons worth taking is not the years on paper.

I design every session around what actually works for the person in front of me. I have had students perform Romeo and Juliet entirely in Spanish and painted children as planets for a science lesson. When a student is genuinely inside an experience, the language stops feeling like a subject and starts feeling like a tool. That shift is what I work toward in every lesson.

My degree in Psychology means I notice things quickly. Where you hesitate, where you light up, what kind of explanation finally makes something click. I use that to adjust in real time rather than following a script.

Whether you are a complete beginner or working toward fluency, the lessons will not feel like homework. They will feel like something worth showing up for.
