About Jon

As a graduate of an International Studies program, a strong background in the Spanish language, and experiences living in Dominican Republic has equipped me with a strong foundation to teach and share my knowledge.

Having been raised by Dominican parents, I spent most of my life speaking Spanish in the household while living in the United States. During my childhood I was fortunate enough to live and attend school in the Dominican Republic for a couple of years which further enhanced my Spanish speaking abilities and cultural awareness. I later came back to the United States to finish high school where I took and succeeded in Native Spanish speaking courses. Following my high school graduation, I attended Navy basic training and joined the reserves to allow me the ability to pursue a college education. I recently graduated from the Citadel, Military College of South Carolina with a degree in an International Studies Discipline, which also included high level Spanish courses. I am passionate about teaching others and sharing knowledge that may peak someone's interests. If given the opportunity, I will strive to enhance your education and comfortability in the Spanish language in a fun and exciting way!

About the lesson

As a Spanish tutor, my approach is designed to be interactive, engaging, and tailored to the individual needs of the learner no matter the age or level of proficiency. Lesson plans will be customized to your necessities after assessing your current proficiency level, goals, and areas of focus. We will conduct interactive lessons involving speaking, listening, reading, and writing exercises. We will also build on grammar and vocabulary while also practicing conversations to enhance fluency and confidence. In addition to teaching the language, I will ensure to incorporate the culture of Spanish-speaking countries to help connect all the dots! Having taken several Spanish classes from elementary level through college level, I also understand the importance of regular assessments to gauge progress but I also understand the importance of flexibility in your learning journey.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my level of knowledge, dedication, and enthusiasm that I bring to the table. Having obtained a Bachelor's degree has given me insight on education and having lived in the Dominican Republic has provided me an additional experience that I can utilize while teaching.

Tutoring sessions are available for students grades 6 and up, to include college, and also adults interested in learning a second language.
