About Maxine
Hey there! I'm Maxine! I grew up in Finland and I am a native speaker of Mandarin and English, and fluent in Finnish. I've always loved meeting diverse people and learning their language and culture, so in 2014 I moved to Canada. Since then I have been a mentor for international students, helping them navigate this unique but foreign country, that was initially difficult for me to adapt to as well. Language plays such a major role in our daily lives, but more importantly language plays a pivotal role in connecting us to one another, and helping us find a sense of belonging. Hi! I'm Maxine, and I'm here to be a helpful and supportive tutor for your daily English/Mandarin needs. I came to Canada almost a decade ago as an international student, and prior to that, I spent 18 years of my life growing up in Finland where I was juggling Finnish, Mandarin, and English in my day to day life and academic settings. This is why I understand the unique challenges that comes with this journey, and I would like to offer my help. Together we can work out a plan that suits your learning needs and unique situation. Some of the areas that I can help are:

- grammar and vocabulary
- how to read social cues and engage in small talk
