I am writing a letter of support for Jay, who is applying for consideration as a diplomate in clinical neuropsychology.

Although I have known Jay for only a short time and have not directly supervised him, I have looked over some of his psychological test reports, a number of publication in the areas of neuroscience, cognitive science, and neuropsychology, and a synopsis of his extensive clinical portfolio. Jay has a noteworthy publication record with a number of key papers (e.g., regarding the neuropsychology of music, movement, and cognition, critiques of psychological assessment).

Jay has performed hundreds of psychological evaluations on a wide range of patients with a broad range of disorders involving CNS dysfunction. In the last five years, he has worked in the Neurology office of Brown, M.D., with head injury and epilepsy patients, as a consultant to the Alzheimer’s Treatment and Memory Training Center, performing extensive neuropsychological workups on elderly patients with dementia and depression, and at Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State, where is currently Chief Psychologist. In terms of the latter position, Jay supervises staff and conducts neuropsychological evaluations of patients with a variety of neuropsychiatric disorders, including mental retardation, seizure
disorder, autism, Rett’s syndrome, learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, psychosis, and bipolar disease, as well as substance-induced disorders.

Through my personal experience with Jay, I have found him to be a responsible, professional, and ethical individual who I believe would be an excellent candidate for board-eligibility in clinical neuropsychology. In addition, Jay has excellent interpersonal skills, considerable warmth and empathy, and a high level of motivation, characteristics that are essential in the clinical setting. Under my aegis, he has observed a neuropsychological evaluation in my service in the Department of Neurology at Mount Sinai Medical Center and will continue to be involved with the service in the future.
