About Ishika
I am a recent graduate from the University of Michigan, where I studied neuroscience, and I am currently in the process of applying to medical school.
I have several years of tutoring experience, including working as a college math tutor for precalculus, where I focused on helping students build strong problem-solving skills and confidence in quantitative subjects.
In addition to tutoring, I have spent the past year working as a pediatric medical assistant at Michigan Medicine. Through this role, I developed strong communication skills and learned how to explain complex information in a clear, supportive way—skills that directly translate into my teaching style.
I am passionate about mentoring students and creating a learning environment that is both encouraging and effective, helping students not only improve academically but also gain confidence in their abilities.

My tutoring approach is centered on personalized, practice-based learning tailored to each student’s goals, strengths, and areas for growth. I begin by assessing the student’s current understanding, learning style, and academic objectives, whether that be improving course performance, preparing for exams, or getting ahead for the upcoming school year.
For ongoing tutoring, I create individualized lesson plans that align with the student’s coursework while reinforcing foundational concepts. Sessions are typically structured in three parts:
Concept Review – briefly revisiting key ideas from class to ensure understanding
Guided Practice – working through problems together, encouraging students to explain their reasoning
Independent Application – allowing students to attempt problems on their own to build confidence and mastery
I emphasize active learning by having students engage directly with the material rather than passively listening. My goal is to help students develop problem-solving skills and independence over time.
In addition to long-term tutoring, I offer:
Course-based support focused on current class material
Exam preparation, including targeted review and practice tests
Summer tutoring to preview upcoming coursework and strengthen foundational skills
College application support, including personal statement guidance and essay editing
