About Olivia

Hi everyone! I am a master’s student at Northwestern University with extensive experience in academic writing, including typical structured essays, longer research papers, and case analyses. I also have prior experience as a copy editor for a student-run magazine, where I developed a strong attention to clarity, grammar, and detail. In addition, my background in sports coaching (sailing) has strengthened my ability to teach concepts clearly, provide constructive feedback, and support students in building confidence. I approach tutoring professionally and thoughtfully. I truly want you to be successful! Outside of teaching and writing, I love reading, hiking, singing, and sailing. I also enjoy hanging out with my cat. Can't wait for our first lesson!

About the lesson

My teaching method focuses on helping students understand how writing works and how to improve rather than just simply correcting their work. Using the student's own writing, I teach structure, clarity, and proofreading skills so they can improve independently. The approach I take emphasizes guided revision, pattern recognition in errors, and clear explanations.

My typical lesson plan:
- Begins with a review of the assignment, rubric, and goals.
- A read-through of the paper for clarity and structure.
- Focus on 1-2 key skills (such as organization, argument, or grammar).
- Revise examples together and practice applying changes.
- End with takeaways and next steps! :)

What sets me apart is my combination of strong writing skills and an instructional background through sports coaching, allowing me to teach writing in a clear, structured, and encouraging way. I am patient and ready to help!

My lessons will be great for those in middle school, high school, or undergraduates of all writing levels seeking essay, research paper, grammar, proofreading, and academic writing support.
