About Karen

I am a life-long learner. I completed my RN in a diploma program, was married, had 2 beautiful boys, and returned to school. I completed my BSN and MSN degrees at the University of Texas in Houston. I started teaching ADN students and then I went back to school. I completed my PhD in Nursing from Widener University in Pennsylvania.
I have provided clinical instruction for students in Medical-Surgical units and Obstetrical units. My classroom teaching responsibilities have included Fundamentals, Medical Surgical Adult Care, Nursing Research, Senior Capstone, Clinical Judgment, and Leadership. As a nursing tutor, most recently, I have tutored undergraduate BSN and accelerated BSN students for content across the baccalaureate curriculum.

About the lesson

I use my first meeting with students, which is always free of charge, to understand the student's assessment of their learning history. Do they learn the material best with concept mapping or do the pages of text come alive for them in a grid system? The learning outcomes established at this meeting become the framework for the lesson plan.
A typical lesson follows the student's progress in meeting the weekly learning outcome and may be followed by a discussion of alternative approaches if current ideas are not working. New information is shared and plans for addressing the next learning outcome are discussed. The student may be asked to share a weekly evaluation of their work.
I have tutored ADN, BSN, and Accelerated BSN students across the curriculum for more than 15 years. I also have more than 5 years of experience in the virtual teaching environment.
