About Laura

I’m a Registered Adult Nurse with around 20 years’ experience working within the NHS. I started my career as a Healthcare Support Worker before qualifying as a nurse, and have since worked across acute medicine, emergency care and senior nursing roles. I’m currently completing my MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice at Keele University.

Supporting and developing others has always been an important part of my nursing career. I completed my formal mentorship and student sign-off qualification through Keele University and have supported many nursing students throughout their training, including during their final placements as they prepared to qualify.

I’ve also supported newly qualified nurses through preceptorship – that slightly scary stage when university is finished, the student badge has gone, and you suddenly realise YOU are now the nurse! I know how valuable it can be to have someone approachable to talk things through with while you build your knowledge, clinical reasoning and, importantly, your confidence.

One of the things I enjoy most is taking something that initially feels complicated or overwhelming and breaking it down until that “ahh… now I get it!” moment happens. I also know first-hand what it’s like to return to university alongside work and everyday life, and sometimes you don’t need another textbook explanation – you just need someone to explain it differently.

I’m approachable, patient and very much believe there’s no such thing as a silly question. Whether you’re just starting your healthcare journey, approaching qualification, finding your feet as a newly qualified practitioner, returning to study after a break, or developing your knowledge at a more advanced level, I’d love to help you build your understanding and confidence.

About the lesson

My approach is simple – making the complicated make sense.

Nursing and healthcare can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly when you’re faced with lots of terminology, theory and clinical knowledge all at once. My approach is relaxed, supportive and completely tailored to you.

We’ll start with what you already understand, identify where things are becoming confusing, and work through them in a way that makes sense to you.

I like to use real-life clinical examples to bring theory to life, alongside discussion, questioning, case scenarios and retrieval practice. There’s absolutely no such thing as a silly question – if something doesn’t click the first time, we’ll simply find another way of explaining it.

I’m a Registered Adult Nurse with around 20 years’ NHS clinical experience, including many years within acute and emergency medicine and experience in senior nursing roles. I’m currently completing my MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice at Keele University, so I understand both sides of the experience – being an experienced clinician and being a student juggling academic work, clinical practice and assessments.

Sessions would typically be around 60 minutes, although this can be adapted depending on what you need. You may simply want a one-off session to get your head around a difficult topic, some focused preparation before an assessment, or more regular support throughout your studies. We can tailor sessions around you and your goals.
I can support student nurses, nursing associates, healthcare support workers and other healthcare students, from those just starting their training through to more experienced practitioners undertaking further study.

Clinical and theoretical support can include anatomy and physiology, acute and elderly care, clinical skills, history taking and physical assessment, OSCE preparation, clinical reasoning, case-based learning and linking theory to real-life clinical practice.

I can also provide academic and assignment support, including understanding assignment questions, planning and structuring your work, developing critical thinking and writing, reflective writing, finding and using appropriate evidence, applying models and frameworks to practice, referencing, and understanding feedback from previous assignments.

Most importantly, my aim isn’t simply to give you an answer. I want you to leave a session actually understanding the why behind it, so you feel more confident applying what you’ve learned independently in both your studies and clinical practice.
