About Donald

I have been tutoring for just over 2 years part time, alongside my high school studies. In this time i have taken on at least 4 GCSE and higher students, all of which have gone to make significant and noticeable improvements in grades and a few have even gone on take the subject further as an A level or considered it as an Advanced higher. The students i have taught mainly ranged between 14 and 18, but i have had the pleasure of taking on a Former Olympic coach, and very grateful of the opportunity as i have developed a great deal as a person through insightful conversation where his experience has been shed and some talks which have led me adopt certain changes and frequent evaluation to my teaching and preparation style; again which has led to boost in success rate and rapport amongst students.

About the lesson

Second year civil engineering student at Heriot Watt, Edinburgh and having completed education down in England; achieving A grades in Mathematics, Physics and a comfortable B in Computing. I previously struggled with school teaching style, often in dispute and confused by mark schemes and thrown by past papers despite in my head knowing, I had completed all the topic question and homework set. I aim my lessons towards all students who are keen to study, patient and aiming for top grades.

In saying this, I am looking for students of all academic backgrounds with a positive and can- do attitude who are looking to see drastic improvement in results, and will allow me to instil a positive outlook towards the subject, open to seeing its relevance, application and purpose of the subject. Often at times I feel certain schools forget to this.

I strive to motivate them and firmly believe it is important as a tutor to take the time out to assess the pupils learning style, and so can tailor content, communication and method to the student's uniqueness. This will be achieved by exercising attribute I possess including organisation, enthusiasm and high work ethic in lesson preparation and using intuition to evaluates methods available for tackling an answer before. Whereby selecting the most appropriate way in which the student will understand organically.

Regarding lesson structure I am flexible as to how so the student would like to utilise the time, I am open to souly tackling homework and past paper question or to sitting down and working chronologically through the content, dissecting the syllabus as we go along and ensuring no gaps in knowledge.
