About Bryony

I have been tutoring Biology online for SQA exams since 2020. I love biology, and really enjoy helping students to understand the subject, and maybe even enjoy it. It’s great to see a difficult topic suddenly make sense.

I have a First Class Honours degree in Microbiology from the University of Glasgow, graduating joint top of my class. My degree course covered a wide range of areas of biology, from genetics and cell biology to plant science and immunology, as well as the bacteria, viruses and parasites you would expect from Microbiology, so I am confident I can help with all aspects of school Biology.

About the lesson

The first session is a chance for us to say hello, make sure there aren’t any technical issues with the video call, and to discuss what areas of Biology you are finding the most difficult and what topics you’d like to cover first.

I generally start by talking through the topic – simply hearing a different explanation of something you’re finding difficult can make a huge difference, especially when you can ask as many questions as you like, without being afraid of looking silly in front of your classmates. We can then work through questions together relating to that topic – I use a mixture of past paper questions, true-or-false, fill-in-the-blanks and other styles of question to cover the whole topic in detail. Doing questions together means I can help you really understand what the question is asking you to do, and help you to get to the right answer for yourself, which is a far more effective way of learning than just reading the answer from a page without understanding why it is correct or how to get there.

I tutor biology at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher, including Higher Human Biology.
