About Charlotte

I am an open-minded and enthusiastic 30 year old woman from France, now living in Norway. I have a wide array of interests ranging from music, photography, science, DIY projects, cooking, but most and foremost, travels, languages and culture. I have been passionate about languages and their cultural identity for as long as I can remember. I have traveled a lot, I have lived in foreign countries, and I have been studying and working in the Tourism industry for the past 10 years. During my studies, I used to tutor and teach in French and in English to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Today I speak 4 languages fluently: French (which is my mother tongue), English, Italian and Spanish. I have also been learning Norwegian, Russian and German. I believe I can be a good fit for you since I have the adequate experience and personal background. I also know what it's like to learn a new language, so I'm very easy to talk to, I'm patient, supportive and encouraging! I am sure we can manage to find common grounds to ensure a smooth conversational flow! :)

About the lesson

I teach all levels from new beginner to advanced, and all ages, it's never too early or too late to start learning something new! :) The lessons will be conducted online, on the platform of your choosing: Google Hangouts, Zoom, Skype, FaceTime ... You name it! However if you live in Skien, we can arrange to meet in person for the lesson. I provide a tailored study plan based on what you are looking for, on your objectives and also, based on who you are, what you are interested in and how you learn best. Depending on what you are after, a typical hour can be fully conversational or a mix of conversations and exercises. I do not have a "one fits all" type of lessons, instead I have rather a pool of teaching materials and resources that I will use to create a lesson designed specifically for you. I will use a variety of resources: audio files, documents, video files, links to articles, journals, etc. I am also all ears if there is a specific type that works best for you, or if you want to use personal resources. As indicated in the title description, I will provide lessons with insights on the French identity through fun facts about the language itself, as well as some historical and cultural fun facts that might help you understand what It means to be French! I love arts in general, so I would be more than happy to recommend you some French series, films, books, songs or artists that we could use as a study material or simply for you to satisfy your curiosity. Finally, I am a foodie and even here in Norway I still cook French recipes inherited from my mother and grandmothers, that I would gladly share with you. If cooking is your thing, we could also meet up and cook together, using this time to converse casually in French! If you are a beginner, learning through recipes is a great way to start, since you will learn basic vocabulary, word placement and conjugation.

It's simply a pleasure to teach Aleksander! He is patient, curious, enthusiastic and a fast learner. It's only been a few lessons, but I can already see the improvement, and I have no doubt that Aleksander will do very well in the practice of French.

I would recommend at least 2hrs a week for several weeks, if you want to see an immediate improvement and if you are committed to becoming fluent. However, if you want to keep things conversational, I would recommend 2hrs one every other week. Naturally, these are just recommendations, you are the one in charge, whatever you decide is fine by me! :) If a long term commitment is considered after a few sessions together, we can of course work out a payment plan.
