About Kate

I qualified as a teacher in 2007 after completing my BA and MA in English at Lancaster University.

I taught adults and teens in the UK for 8 years, covering Essential Skills and Functional Skills qualifications for apprenticeships (reading, writing, speaking and listening). The majority of my adult students spoke English as a Second or Other Language.

Started Private Tutoring in 2011, working with Primary, Secondary and Adult students. Covered a range of exam boards and set texts, including Shakespeare, Poetry, Drama, Novel Studies and responses to unseen texts. Please ask if you have a set text in mind.

Former GCSE Examiner for the WJEC (Welsh Joint Education Committee) for English Language.
Currently tutoring students online for the Cambridge International Examinations board (CIE iGCSE English Language and English Literature and AS Level Literature)

About the lesson

Recommended Max Lesson length:
1 hour for up to age 14.
1.5 hours for aged 15+.

Lessons are taught online via Zoom/Gmeet. Recordings available. I use technology to annotate the screen and provide close readings of text sections. Notes will be provided in PDF format.

Practice exams available, feedback will be given 1-to-1 during sessions with scripts annotated on screen.

Perfect! Excellent lesson structure, excellent notes, wonderful style of teaching that really draws the student out and ensures they are engaged. My son has really improve with Cambridge English under Kate's excellent guidance. We've been with Kate for 2 years now and its certainly good value. She's taken him from a B grade to an A grade last year and we're hoping for similar improvements with AS cambridge

We have been looking for a good English teacher to take my daughter to the next level on her journey of writing for a while. We have met a very good teacher when she was little but could not find a similar one for her present level not until our friend who was in similar situation to us referred Kate to us. My daughter was able to learn something more advanced matching with that internationally. Kate was also able to arouse the her interest during lesson which was essential to keep my daughter engaged. I am confident that Kate would be able to help her step up her English.

Kate is very nice techer, she helps my son lot on English writing, reading, encourage my son big interesting/passion about Eng and reached the best mark.

Kate is a brilliant English Cambridge Tutor. She knows the Cambridge curriculum very well and so really help your child get maximum results. She has a lovely, gentle and patient teaching style and was able to get my son to open up, be curious and explore things he hadn't considered in the texts he was studying. As a result of her teaching him for less than 4 months, my son felt confident in his Shakespearean exam essay as well as with Poetry and he performed very well in his Year 10 exams. We will definitely continue to get help this year as he moves on to IGCSE exams. I have also recommended Kate to other parents and the feedback from them too is overwhelmingly positive.
