About Luke

As a lover of literature and an award-winning poet myself, I have a unique approach to and deep passion for the analysis of language. My writing has been awarded several rewards and scholarships over the years, and I use my own experiences as a writer to coach students in how to understand writers' perspectives in the texts they study, and how to write engaging texts for the written components of their exams. In addition, I have a background in linguistics, having studied Mandarin and French, and I just returned from Paris, France where I was studying at the Language Sciences department of Sorbonne Université IV. I've also spent time living in Québec, Canada and have a fluent level of French.

About the lesson

My name is Luke, and I've been tutoring since May 2021. I began working with Explore Learning in London, where I tutored up to KS3 Maths and English – and upon receiving 3 A*s at A-level and beginning my own studies in French and Music at university, I began to offer private tuition to GCSE English and French students and have spent the last three years curating a flexible and student-focused approach to coaching exam success. My lessons are conducted online, typically via Google Meet, and last for 50 minutes. I put each student's individualised needs in the forefront of all my tutoring. As much as I already have an eclectic base of resources in all of the subjects I teach (including all the main exam board and literature texts studied at GCSE: Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, Jekyll & Hyde, the list goes on!), I'm also incredibly receptive to students' own wishes – and they're free to bring their own work and suggestions to class too. Specifically within the context of exam prep, the exam board's assessment objectives (AOs) are always at the heart of the work we do. In initial lessons with students, I ensure they have a firm understanding and mastery of the AOs for each paper they're preparing for – and we'll consistently make links between the content we cover in class and how to translate this into high marks in an exam.
