About Joseff
I graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Japanese with Chinese. I was born and raised in Aberystwyth, west Wales, and attended Welsh-medium schools throughout my education. I love teaching and learning languages, and have 5 years' experience teaching Japanese, French, Spanish, and Welsh, in addition to experience working in a Welsh-language secondary school.

I have been tutoring Welsh now for over 2 years, and have developed my own personal Welsh course, which covers all levels up to C1. All of my students have access to this course.
I offer tuition to adults of all abilities, and share all the tips and tricks I have used to learn 5+ languages with my pupils. Many of my students would say this makes me a uniquely valuable tutor.
I am particularly interested in the specific issues and pain points for Welsh learners and have developed exercises for many such problems. These include pronunciation of 'y', use of the linking word 'yn/'n', and memorising conjugated forms of 'gwneud', to name just a few.
Examples of previous and current students include:
- Those who have taken or are taking the Duolingo/Dysgu Cymraeg/Other courses and need extra help
- Those wishing to learn some basic Welsh before making a trip to Wales
- Those wanting support for Welsh tests/exams at school or work
- Those who learnt some Welsh at an earlier stage in life and want to brush up on it
- Those who prefer self-study but need occasional 1-1 sessions to check their work and provide native insight
- Those who are already satisfied with their level but want to maintain it
Some students work with me for a few weeks, during which time I pinpoint the issues they are having, and some work with me for several years from beginner level to upper intermediate and advanced. However long you want to learn for, I can help.
I offer two main ‘types’ of teaching:
> Conversation - Examples of possible conversation topics include hobbies, news, language learning, and Wales/Welsh Culture.
> Grammar/Vocabulary - We will take a detailed look at Welsh grammar, suited to your level. We can go at whatever speed you like.
We do not have to stick to one approach or the other - many of my students prefer a 'mixed' approach.

Great teacher, very calm and patient. Very open to discussion and easy to talk to, his exercises help a lot with understanding the complexity of pronunciation and the structure of the language!
