About Alex

I am a 3rd year History student at Oxford University, on course for a First or high 2:1. I specialise in modern British and American history, but I am well-versed in most GCSE and A-Level units. I have a breadth of knowledge which I use in my tutoring to widen and develop my students' historical understanding.
I have tutored and mentored students for 2 years independently and through university schemes, with my students achieving Oxbridge and Russell group university places.

About the lesson

My lessons are discussion-based, engaging, and interactive. I aim to develop my students' wider interest in History, as this genuine interest and passion is what fuels long-term academic achievement!
Through open discussion about course content and primary sources, students are able to engage with topics more thoroughly than in school, and are able to develop their own thoughts, ask important questions, and find what interests them within the subject.
Lessons are based on primary sources or particular historical events and themes from the syllabus, from which a detailed and wide-ranging discussion begins. At the end of the discussion, I work with students to help them understand how to embed their new skills and ideas in their exam technique.
The ability to think for oneself about the big issues in History gives my students the tools they need to achieve great grades!
