About Denver
Hi! I'm Denver! I'm a final year PhD student at Oxford University (in a joint program with Imperial College London) where I'm finishing my thesis on mathematics and scientific AI. I also spent some time at Google X, where I was a PhD resident doing research on machine learning, optimization, and computational biology. I hold a bachelor's degree from New York University, where I graduated with high honors in mathematics and completed 8 graduate-level math and data-science courses. I graduated from NYU and started my PhD at Oxford at only 19 years old. I have TA'd masters-level courses in numerical linear algebra, probability, and machine learning. I am particularly fond of numerical math and differential equations and when learning new math or science topics myself I enjoy simulating solutions numerically for fun. Outside of math, I love music and perform the classical guitar internationally!

Mathematics is not a set of tricks to remember, it’s a way of understanding structure, making connections, and solving problems creatively. My approach aims to help students develop real mathematical thinking, so concepts feel natural instead of like rules to recall under pressure. In lessons, we build from where you are: clarifying fuzzy points and practicing active problem solving. I guide with drawings, questions, examples, and discussion, so you’re engaged in the reasoning and visualization process rather than just copying down lists of formulas. The aim is for you to walk away not only with solutions, but with real mathematical maturity. For exam prep (AP Calculus, SAT, ACT, entrance exams), I balance clarity with targeted practice. I help students with their understanding of the material while training them to perform under the time limits of an exam. For AI mathematics (linear algebra, optimization, machine learning), I utilize coding examples to build real intuition. With modern AI packages, it is easy to end up with large knowledge gaps on the fundamentals, which leads to problems in understanding and developing models. I prefer a "from scratch" approach, understanding the mathematical underpinnings and coding basic models from scratch before relying on modern Python packages. Above all, I adapt to each student’s pace and goals. Whether your priority is exam performance, university admissions, or exploring the frontiers of AI. My style is rigorous but encouraging: every session should leave you more confident, more capable, and more curious than before.
