About Alice
I'm reading for a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy at Oxford University. In sixth form, I completed my IB diploma, for which I studied Higher Level Mathematics, Physics and English and Standard Level Philosophy, German and Music, achieving 44/45 overall (777 at HL). At GCSE/iGCSE, I received 11 A*s, and also an A (highest possible grade) in my FSMQ (Free-Standing Mathematics Qualification). I love rock climbing and music, and I'm a keen cellist and choral singer.
I have tutoring experience with Bright Young Things and am currently tutoring Mathematics for Hilltop Academy Ltd and IPS tutors. I regularly tutored younger GCSE and IB students in collaboration with my school's Maths department during sixth form.

My lessons are student-led, focusing on questions and problems which the students bring to me. Before each lesson, I ask the student what they wish to focus on, and then plan the lesson around a few clear learning objectives. To me, the best way to learn is to work out solutions for oneself, so I aim to guide students to their own answers and to help them understand why it is that a method works. I believe that this should be complemented, but not replaced, by clear and thorough step-by-step explanation of a method. In my experience, this approach allows students to feel more engaged with their learning and proud of their progress.
