About Ian

I am a full-time Science tutor and fully qualified teacher with 8 years of teaching experience and a PhD in Chemistry. I am passionate about science and teach with enthusiasm.

Whether I’m tutoring in person or online, I always bring high levels of energy to inspire my students and raise their confidence.

I am an experienced examiner, marking hundreds of exam papers every year. I have an up-to-date and detailed knowledge of exam specifications and can teach students to think like an examiner. This will help them to improve their exam technique, and ultimately, their grades.

Most students find me through word-of-mouth recommendations, so I have a limited number of reviews on this website. Please rest assured that I have over 2000 hours of experience tutoring over 50 students to great success. For references or further details please send me a message.

Perfect! Very well organised and excellent teaching skills
From a parent perspective I find Ian very organised and well planned. He makes sure to answer any emails in good time.
My son really looks forward to his lessons with Ian. When I asked my son on his thoughts about the lessons, he responded with this:
"He makes you focus on the subject in a fun and exciting way. For remembering points he uses acronyms and rhythmic songs to get the model answer stuck in your head, this makes it easier to understand the question and give an answer which gains all the marks."

saw him develop from a student teacher into an outstanding professional.

At Newlands Ian taught Science to mixed ability classes from Year 7 to 11. He also taught AS and A level Chemistry. As part of the Science department Ian was involved in running and moderating
ISA exams for Year 10, 11 and 12. Throughout this time he was the most organised and reliable member of the department.

Ian's main strength is the ability to share his passion for Science with students of all ages and abilities. He was able to use a variety of resources, often made by himself and always tailored to suit the needs of each student.
