About Alexandra

Hello! I am a piano teacher with over 4 years of experience working with more than 200 students of all ages and levels. I trained as a classical pianist and have since developed strong expertise in jazz, pop, and contemporary styles as well, which allows me to teach a genuinely wide range of musical genres and to meet students wherever their musical interests lie. I teach the full range of piano skills: technique, sight reading, ear training, music theory, repertoire, and performance preparation. I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity grade examinations with great care and thoroughness, and I also teach students with purely recreational goals — students who want to play the music they love, develop at their own pace, and enjoy the process without any examination pressure. I am a patient, enthusiastic, and musically demanding teacher. I hold high standards for every student, but I communicate those standards in an encouraging and supportive way, because I believe that students perform best and develop fastest in an environment where they feel genuinely supported and genuinely challenged at the same time.

About the lesson

My piano teaching philosophy centers on the idea that every student, regardless of age or starting level, has musical potential that is waiting to be developed with the right guidance. What varies between students is the specific path that development needs to take — some need intensive technical foundation work, some need their musicality to be channeled into better technical habits, some need more confidence in their own interpretive instincts, some need more rigorous discipline in their practice habits. Identifying the right path for each individual student is the first and most important thing I do. I teach the full range of piano skills: reading music fluently, developing a reliable and musical technique, building repertoire across different periods and styles, understanding harmony and theory well enough to interpret and learn music more intelligently, and performing with genuine musical expression. I prepare students for grade examinations and other formal assessments, but I also teach students who have no examination goals and who simply want to play the music they love as well as they possibly can. My lessons are warm, encouraging, and musically demanding — I hold high standards for every student but I communicate those standards in a way that motivates rather than demoralizes. I have worked with students from age 5 to age 70, and across that entire range, the fundamental principles of good teaching remain the same: listen carefully, explain clearly, choose the right challenge level, and celebrate genuine progress.
