Any sessions with me will always be relaxed and friendly, always with the aim of foundational improvement of your knowledge in the subject by the end of the session. Before any calls, I'll get in contact to ask for subject areas that you think you need to work on, and collect together some questions that we can work on in depth in the lesson (I find it helpful to go back to basics and build up if you're not getting something, so you not only remember but also understand the content). The typical lengths of my sessions are 1-2 hours, but I am very flexible around this.

In a fast-changing world, it is important that we are able to utilise AI in a safe way and ensure it helps rather than hinders our learning. As a student in a top university I have gained experience in this new relationship we have and how to use it properly to stay at the forefront of learning - this makes me suitable for modern teaching!

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

During my time at university, my passion for science and maths has only increased! I used to struggle a lot in school with focusing and learning in a classroom. After spending much time and effort on improving my learning skills, I have learnt that anyone can excel in maths and physics. My passion therefore has also come from a place of fairness and motivation to help those who are in a similar position to where I was in school.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach maths, physics and economics. All three of these topics are ones that I have further education on at university (although I do a STEM subject I have also completed economics modules, and regularly read social science books out of personal interest). When teaching all of these, I like to link topics to relevant real world scenarios that I'm passionate about - especially within my degree of Materials Science and Nuclear Engineering.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My old physics teacher was one of my inspirations; he always taught with passion and a smile and that is what I aspire to do too.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, depth of knowledge and ability to relate to the student are all important to engage students. With in-depth knowledge, it is easier to explain things by breaking them down into bite-sized chunks. From there, I can relate topics to the real world based on whatever the student is interested in.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

My favourite time in school was always the school trips. I used to love going to the science museum and looking at the space section. Those days where I was able to enjoy education were the ones that inspired me to pursue science.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

The most difficult aspect of mathematics and other technical subjects is the patience that needs to be applied in order to understand harder topics. This patience requires focus, so the most difficult part of studying is creating an environment with no distractions and then sitting down to learn.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My current passion in science is research of nuclear fusion on Earth (trying to emulate the conditions in the sun in order to fuse atoms) as it leads into my overall passion which is sustainability. I also enjoy reading, writing and photography.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

My style of teaching does not suit just one type of student. I am adaptable and will try my best to engage students of all levels and interests. And if they're not already interested in any maths/physics/economics (some students hate school and that's ok!) then I will try my best to discuss things that are relevant in all of our daily lives. I have plenty of experience tutoring and am always willing to change teaching styles for different students.
