About Elise

I am a violin teacher with 6 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance. I have taught over 200 students from young beginners to advanced performers preparing for professional examinations and orchestral auditions. My teaching focuses on bowing technique, vibrato, intonation, phrasing, and developing a genuinely expressive playing style across classical and contemporary repertoire. I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity examinations and have a strong track record of excellent results at every grade level. I also offer orchestral and ensemble preparation for students joining youth orchestras and school string groups. My approach is patient, methodical, and always adapted to each student's individual pace and musical goals. About the lesson

My violin lessons are carefully structured to develop strong healthy technique and genuine musical understanding from the very first lesson. Every session starts with a posture and bow hold check followed by a warm-up sequence of scales, arpeggios, and bowing exercises to prepare the body and mind for productive and focused practice. I place strong emphasis on bow technique from the earliest stages of learning because it has the most direct and immediate impact on tone quality and musical expression. Intonation is developed through systematic scale work, careful listening exercises, and targeted use of tuning apps alongside consistent teacher guidance throughout. Students preparing for ABRSM or Trinity examinations follow the required syllabus closely with regular mock assessments covering all required components including scales, pieces, sight-reading, and aural tests. Advanced students work on shifting between positions, vibrato depth and consistency, double stopping, and developing a personal interpretive voice in their playing. I use backing tracks to develop ensemble awareness, rhythmic accuracy, and the musical sensitivity required for chamber and orchestral performance contexts. For students joining orchestras I provide specific sight-reading coaching and guidance on ensemble blend, balance, and playing etiquette. Clear, specific, and constructive feedback is given after every performance so students always have actionable goals to work toward between lessons. My goal is for every student to develop a strong healthy technique and a genuinely enduring love of playing the violin.
