About Henry

Hi! I’m Henry — a qualified primary school teacher with over 5 years of classroom experience across a range of year groups. I’ve helped children of all abilities grow in confidence and make excellent progress, particularly in reading, writing, and maths. I’m passionate about making learning fun, engaging, and tailored to each child’s needs. Whether your child needs help catching up, preparing for SATs, or just a boost in confidence, I can provide friendly, focused support that gets results. I’ve worked with children 1:1 and in small groups, and I’m skilled at breaking down tricky concepts in a calm, encouraging way. As someone who’s also worked in high-pressure environments outside of education (including Michelin-starred kitchens!), I bring creativity, patience, and resilience to everything I do. My Approach to Tutoring & Teaching As a qualified primary school teacher with over 5 years of classroom experience, my tutoring approach is warm, structured, and fully personalised. I focus on building a strong relationship with each learner, tailoring every session to their individual needs, pace, and goals — whether that’s boosting confidence, closing learning gaps, or preparing for assessments like SATs. Techniques & Methodology My teaching is grounded in clear explanations, interactive learning, and lots of encouragement. I use a mix of visual, verbal, and hands-on strategies to suit different learning styles, and I regularly assess understanding through gentle questioning and short tasks. I aim to make lessons enjoyable and motivating — especially for children who may feel anxious or disengaged. For reading, I often blend phonics support, vocabulary development, and comprehension strategies to strengthen fluency and understanding. I also use real books, games, and relatable texts where possible to foster a genuine love of reading. ️ Lesson Length Most of my sessions are 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the age and focus area. For younger children or those needing short bursts of input, 30 minutes often works best. Older children working towards specific goals may benefit more from a full hour.
