About Esther

Hello, I am Esther, a native Mandarin Chinese speaker living in Hamilton, New Zealand. I hold a Master of Technology Innovation in Business from the University of Waikato, completed in April 2026, and a Master's degree from Minzu University of China, completed in 2020. I grew up and worked in China, so I use everyday Mandarin naturally and understand the language people need for daily life, travel and workplace communication. I currently volunteer at SeniorNet Hamilton, where I give one-on-one technology support to older adults; this experience showed me how much I enjoy explaining things clearly and helping learners gain confidence. I am bilingual in English and Mandarin, patient, organized and friendly. I teach because I enjoy sharing my language and culture, and I am happy to support learners at their own pace.

About the lesson

Hello, I am Esther, a native Mandarin speaker based in Hamilton, New Zealand. I teach beginner conversational Mandarin, travel Chinese, pinyin and basic characters, and simple business Chinese to adults, children and seniors. My approach is patient, one-on-one and goal-focused: we start from what you already know, break new language into small steps, and practise at a calm pace. I explain grammar and pronunciation in English when it helps, then switch to Mandarin conversation. Lessons are planned around your real goals, with light homework and short review notes after each class. The atmosphere is friendly and low pressure, because mistakes are part of learning. I offer online video lessons and in-person classes around Hamilton, with a free 30-minute trial first.
