About Emmalyn

"Sight reading and music theory are the foundational skills I bring to our piano sessions. My journey started with a BM in Piano Performance and a Master of Music in Vocal Studies from the Peabody Institute.

I have spent 13 years teaching 401 students how to master posture and hand position while exploring pop and contemporary styles. Because I accompany my own singers, I understand how to integrate ear training and memorization techniques into a well-rounded practice routine. Helping you find your musical voice is my goal as your coach."

About the lesson

"Mistakes are actually the most useful part of a productive piano practice. You will receive a short recorded playback of each session so you can review at home. My background at the Peabody Institute informs how I teach accompaniment skills and sight transposition to returning learners. We treat the keyboard as an extension of the human voice, since that is how I have performed for 13 years.

It is quite common to find that your hands eventually follow what your ears have already heard. The process moves at your pace while we keep the energy playful. I find that this method helps students retain information much better."
