About the lesson

With over 20 years of dedicated experience working with teenagers in educational environments, including 21 years as a Further Education (FE) Performing Arts Lecturer, I possess a unique and proven background in blending coaching methodologies, teaching expertise, and holistic wellness practices to significantly improve student performance and overall well-being. My two decades in education have been centred around two critical areas: academic guidance and pastoral support. As an FE Performing Arts lecturer, I successfully supported hundreds of students through challenging academic and vocational pathways. This role involved continuous coaching to foster creativity, resilience, and performance discipline, skills directly transferable to life coaching. Crucially, I have deep experience providing pastoral care, guiding young adults through personal challenges, managing stress, and developing the self-advocacy necessary for success. I have honed skills in understanding the specific challenges teens face, from academic pressure and time management to motivation and goal setting. My approach leverages teaching skills to convey effective study strategies and executive functioning, while utilising coaching to empower students to set attainable goals and take ownership of their learning journey, directly leading to enhanced academic attainment. Furthermore, my expertise includes specialised training and application of mindfulness and wellness techniques. I have successfully integrated these practices to help students manage the inherent anxieties of performance and assessment, resulting in healthier, more balanced, and resilient young adults. My familiarity with integrating these holistic concepts into digital interactions makes me immediately effective in an online coaching format. I am eager to transition my comprehensive experience from the classroom and stage to a remote coaching environment. I am confident that my blend of teaching rigour, creative communication, and dedicated pastoral support aligns perfectly with the requirements of this role and the unique needs of a virtual coaching programme.
