About Alex

I’m Alex, a music production student based in Leeds. I’ve been playing guitar for over ten years and achieved Grade 8, alongside Grade 8 level piano.

I’ve played in several bands over the years, performing and writing original music, which has given me real experience playing with others, developing parts, and understanding how guitar fits into a full band setup. This practical background feeds directly into how I teach.

I’m patient and approachable, and I enjoy helping students build confidence and understand what they’re playing, whether they’re just starting out or looking to progress further.

About the lesson

My lessons are one-to-one and fully tailored to each student. I don’t follow a fixed syllabus unless it’s useful for your goals. Instead, lessons are built around what you want to improve and the kind of music you enjoy.

For beginners, we focus on building solid foundations without rushing: posture, basic technique, chords, rhythm and confidence. For intermediate and advanced players, lessons can cover lead playing, improvisation, theory, songwriting, exam preparation, or refining technique and timing.

I usually combine practical playing with just enough theory to make things make sense on the instrument, rather than learning it in isolation. If you want to learn songs, we’ll break them down properly so you understand what you’re playing, not just memorise shapes.

Lessons are relaxed and supportive, but still structured so you can see progress over time. I encourage questions and adapt my teaching style depending on how you learn best.

Lessons are available in person in the Leeds area or online, with flexible scheduling
