About Alec

I've been DJing for over 13 years and specialise in mixing Drum & Bass, however, I can help with any genre of electronic music. Originally from Sydney, Australia, I moved to London in 2019 to commit more time to working on music and started my own business, Kaiyo Sonics (concealed information) offering DJ lessons and courses. About the lesson

Lessons are completely tailored to your specific needs and aim to build your confidence, improve your skills and develop an in-depth understanding of the concepts & techniques behind DJing. We can cover any of the following as well as any other specific questions you may have:

Equipment setup and what everything does, including controllers, DJ software etc.
Where to download music
Track structure and phrasing (the most important thing you need to learn)
Beatmatching
Mixing and EQ
Harmonic mixing
Creative mixing
Looping and FX
Preparing and recording sets

Everyone will also have lifetime access to any online resources I create for my students such as my beginner's guide to DJing ebook. Lessons can be online or in-person and are typically 2 hours however, can be arranged for any length you like.

I offer in-person lessons and courses at Pirate Studios in Earlsfield, London. Sessions at Pirate Studios use club-standard CDJs and DJM mixers and will cost extra for booking the studio. I can do Notting Hill, Camden, Hackney and Dalston studios as well but these will incur a £20 travel charge. There's no travel charge for Earlsfield, just my hourly rate plus the studio hire.

I have a referral code for £20 free studio credit if you don't mind booking the studio yourself. At this stage, the codes are only able to be used by new customers who haven't previously created an account or booked a studio at pirate.

I can consider doing in person lessons at your home using your equipment depending on your location in London.

Perfect! Alec has created a very organised tutoring planning and is extremely knowledgeable. He not only takes the time to help you understand what you should be doing yet also why - this really helped me internalise all the main concepts and components of DJing. Alec is a patient and genuinely invested in your learning. He gives all his time and energy to explain concepts that can be particularly confusing to someone completely new to Djing. He is highly knowledgable and you can see his love and passion for music within his lessons.

I felt like he met me where I was (a complete beginner) and helped me to build my confidence to start mixing songs together. I have a lot more to learn and experiment with but with Alec's support and feedback it's helped me learn and understand what I am doing, and given me motivation to continue.

I highly recommend Alec as a tutor, you will not be disappointed.

Please note: Lessons are only £25/hr if paying by bank transfer, £28/hr if paying through superprof due to service fees. I don't offer lessons for free, unfortunately it's not possible to change it from saying that.

Studio hire will be an additional cost for lessons at Pirate Studios and ranges from £16.30-£19.30/hr. You can use my referral code 'ALEC256563' to receive £20 free studio credit if you don't mind booking the studio yourself. I don't charge for travel at Earlsfield as it’s my local studio so there is no commute and travel costs involved. I can do Notting Hill, Camden, Hackney and Dalston studios as well but these will incur a £20 travel charge.

Travel will be £20 for home lessons unless you happen to live close by. If you live around SW18/19 I can potentially reduce/remove the travel fee depending on location.

Example for 2 hour session at Pirate studios Earlsfield:
Hourly rate: £25 x 2 = £50
Studio hire: £16.30 x 2 = £32.60
Travel: £0
Total: £82.60
