About Shereen

I am an English & Spanish graduate and hold a masters in creative writing. I have worked as primary school teacher for ten years with experience in both state funded and private schools. I was a curriculum leader in English and Modern Foreign languages. I am highly experienced in helping children make progress in all lessons but particularly with their reading, writing (including grammar and spelling) and maths. I have an excellent understanding of the British national curriculum and its assessment. I have a bilingual background, speaking both English and Spanish, so I understand the possible barriers for EAL students. I also have experience of working with children with dyscalculia, dyslexia, processing issues, ADD/ADHD, social/emotional, sensory and other learning difficulties. For older pupils I offer support in English language & literacy and Spanish, with a focus on consolidating key knowledge, building confidence, completing homework and preparing for exams. For A-level, university students and adults, I offer English language lessons and I can also support and mentor in essay writing, creative writing (fiction) and guide you on completing CVs and applications for further learning or employment. I offer 30 minute lessons at primary level (KS1 and 2) and 1 hour lessons for older pupils (KS 3 and 4) & adults.

About the lesson

I am passionate about learning and always strive to make my lessons fun, enjoyable and memorable. My aim is to help pupils gain confidence and find ways to progress with their learning. I have worked with children who need extra support, particularly those who might struggle with slower processing, memory difficulties, dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADD/ADHD and anxiety over their learning. I offer a calm and supportive environment and will always teach at your pace. I tailor lessons depending on the individual and include strategies to support you with your learning and any difficulties you may be having. Equally, if you are finding that your current classroom learning isn't challenging enough, I can provide you with lessons to boost your knowledge and work beyond school expectations. For older students and adults, I offer English language lessons, both in conversational skills and more advanced areas. I can also support and mentor you through your essay writing and CV and application writing. For adults, I offer this service and I can also support with other paperwork, for example form filling, job applications, letters. As a graduate of creative writing, with several stories published in anthologies, I can also offer mentoring for budding writers who are at the beginning of their writing journey and would like support and critique of their work. I can provide writers with advice on how to move their stories forwards and reach specific writing goals.
