About Thomas

I am a PhD researcher in the English and Comparative Literature department at King’s College London. I have been a teacher in this department for the past couple of years, giving me extensive experience lecturing and delivering seminar-style teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

For the past ten years, I have worked as a private tutor independently and as part of tutoring agencies such as MyTutors, Tutorful, and Tutorhouse. I am also a CIEP-certified proofreader and editor that can help turn any piece of writing, whether it's a CV or master's thesis, into a well-organised, intellectually engaging text.

I pride myself on my ability to teach students of all ages, backgrounds, and capabilities, delivering tailor-made classes that are informative and entertaining. I specialise in improving written and oral comprehensive skills for neurodivergent children with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia.

About the lesson

I specialise in improving the written communication and critical thinking skills of GCSE and A-Level students in various arts and humanities subjects: philosophy, history, ancient history, politics, and, particularly, English Language and Literature. I am well versed in the set texts, syllabuses, and assessed content of several examination boards: Edexcel, AQA, International Baccalaureate, Cambridge IGCSE, WJEC, and Scottish Highers. I have also helped students prepare for Oxford interviews and admissions tests, sit the GAMSAT and BMAT medical entrance exams, and pass the IELTS English proficiency exams.

I have taught English as a foreign language to non-native speakers abroad in Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam. This has given me valuable skills to increase conversational skills, vocabulary range, and correct grammar, diction, and sentence construction in students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. I have volunteered in primary and secondary schools as a tutor, helping students with special needs and learning difficulties struggling with English.

I am a naturally patient and open-minded teacher who ensures each lesson is tailor-made to suit each student’s personal needs and learning motivations. I have high standards in the hard work and respect I expect from my students. I am motivated by my students' progress and am willing to adapt and improve my teaching strategies to help students achieve the academic success they deserve.
