About Jonathan

I’m currently undertaking the final year of my PhD in Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Cambridge, specializing in the study of ancient Greek manuscripts. With nearly a decade of experience tutoring and teaching, I enjoy helping students of all levels connect with these timeless languages in ways that meet their unique goals. My love for Greek and Latin began as an undergraduate and has grown into a lifelong passion. Beyond academics, I’ve enjoyed using these languages in creative ways, such as playing board games in Koine Greek, which helps make learning engaging and practical. Whether my students are studying for exams, diving into theology, or exploring ancient texts for personal enrichment, I aim to make lessons both rewarding and enjoyable.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I strive to make learning enjoyable and engaging by adapting lessons to each student’s goals and learning style. For beginners, I typically use a grammar-based approach with trusted textbooks like Wheelock’s Latin or Mounce’s Greek Grammar. For students who prefer a more immersive experience, I love to incorporate natural learning methods with resources like Lingua Latina or Athenaze. For students interested in specific texts, I'm also happy read through entire texts or passages of interest and discuss issues as they arise. My lessons are interactive, featuring vocabulary drills, reading and writing practice, and personalized exercises that help reinforce key concepts.

I bring nearly a decade of experience tutoring and leading study groups for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students and am happy to work with students of all ages. Along with that experience, I offer a unique academic background with a PhD in Theology and Religious Studies from Cambridge, specializing in ancient manuscripts. This background allows me to offer interested students a rare opportunity to explore handwritten Greek and Latin texts from the ancient world.
