About Ashley
I am a PhD student in Sociology at UC Merced with several years of experience teaching and mentoring students in academic writing and research. Through my work as an instructor and teaching assistant, I have supported students at different skill levels, helping them strengthen their writing, develop clear arguments, and feel more confident in their academic abilities.
I understand that writing can feel overwhelming, especially when expectations are unclear. My goal is to make the process more approachable by breaking down assignments, offering clear guidance, and creating a supportive, judgment-free space for learning. Students who work with me can expect thoughtful feedback, patience, and a genuine investment in their progress.
I take professionalism seriously and strive to be reliable, communicative, and prepared for each session. Whether a student needs help getting started, revising a draft, or building long-term writing skills, I am committed to helping them succeed.

My approach to tutoring is student-centered and focused on building both confidence and skills. I work with students to understand where they are in their writing or coursework, and then help them develop clear, organized, and well-supported ideas. Rather than simply correcting work, I guide students through the process so they can apply what they learn independently in the future.
A typical session depends on the student’s needs, but often includes reviewing an assignment or draft, identifying areas for improvement, and working together to strengthen structure, argument, and clarity. I also help students break down assignments into manageable steps and develop strategies for planning and revising their work.
What sets me apart is my experience as both a PhD student and instructor. I have taught and supported college students from diverse backgrounds, and I understand how to meet students at different skill levels without judgment. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their voice.
My lessons are best suited for middle school, high school, and college students who want support with writing, research papers, personal statements, and organization. I also work well with students who may feel unsure about their writing and need guidance building confidence alongside their skills.
