About Miuran Dencil

PhD Student in mathematics. Already having a master Degree in mathematics. I have my bachelors degree in mathematics. I have been teaching mathematics for more than 12 years. I've taught Hight school, Junior and Elementary level maths too. I am a trainer for exams such as GRE/ SAT and other math related exams for college entry

About the lesson

My desire to motivate the concepts I teach manifests itself in my lectures, especially when I am introducing something new. Before introducing any relevant theory or techniques, I ensure that the students are made aware of the historical context surrounding the subject at hand. By doing this, the class can see specific examples of the problem(s) people were working on at that time, as well as why they were interested in their solution. In this way, I find that the utility of solving problems discussed in class is more obvious to students, and the discussed methods of solution appear more natural. I also attempt to describe where such mathematics is still in use today, drawing from my own knowledge of engineering and the natural sciences to give concrete examples.When I stand in front of a class, I make sure that everybody gets my attention. I always start from the basics and make sure everybody on the same page before I continue on to more advanced material. While adhering to my syllabus, I still want my students to be able to connect with what I am teaching them.I believe interaction with students is a really important aspect of teaching. Asking questions and assessing them through regular exams are very useful because I get good feedback about their level of understanding before I move forward. I like to give three-minute, short problems from my previous lecture before I start the next class, which ensures that students read their class materials regularly and which makes it easy for us to continue to new material. I also encourage them to ask any questions during the class period and meet me during my office hours for further help.Recapping highlights of my last class is really important for students to connect to new material. Then my style of teaching is to work many concrete examples and teach problem solving techniques during the class.I strongly believe that this improves their understanding about what each theory means. Also drawing picture if possible, is always a good and easy way to explain certain topics, for example in mechanics, vector analysis or geometry.
