About Tom
Learning physical expression skills from Tom Rolls is an acting class like no other. Tom has enjoyed decades of comedic and dramatic acting on stage and screen.
Being chosen as one of the very few from thousands who auditioned, Tom attended the prestigious Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. It may sound funny but only about 30 students were accepted each year from thousand who auditioned. Clowning doesn't require makeup and makeup doesn’t make you a clown. Think about the on screen stars…. Kramer on Seinfeld, John Ritter, Steve Martin, Dick Van Dyke, Jim Carey, Chris Farley, Martin Short… All clowns… Physical comedians…
Some more subtle dramatic ones are Dustin Hoffman, Al Pachino, Jack Nicholson… These skills can easily be applied to enhance drama as well.
Three years after graduating, Tom returned to Clown College as a teacher. As a professional juggler, Tom used these physical skills to create his comedic character and enhance situations during the act. A Las Vegas production company went around the nation on an audition tour. Tom was chosen as one of two variety acts that were offered contracts.
Tom’s solo act was at the #1 hotel in the world at the time, (According to Zagat)
Tom was also contracted as a Character Performer, Producer’s Consultant and Physical expression instructor for the cast of over 50 dancers and characters in the main show.
After two consecutive annual contracts, Tom left Las Vegas to perform for years at a vaudeville style comedy theater with colleagues from Ringling Bros. This gave him the opportunity to play several comedic and dramatic characters and enhance his skills even more with like minded actors.
Learning these skills is fun. This class is about you learning serious and necessary skills to take your acting to the next level. This class is great for actors of any level but it is not recommended as a first acting class. It is best if you already have some acting experience or have taken a few other classes first. The purpose of the course is to enhance your acting abilities.

If you want to catch the attention of top producers and directors you need to have excellent physical skills that enhance your character and/or situations that your character finds itself.
Comedy, like drama, is an art with formulas and skills that can be taught. These physical skills can greatly enhance your character’s overall personality as well as reactions to situations. A lot of times the audience is not conscience of these skills . Whether your character is dramatic or comedic, performing strong physical skills with confidence is imperative to landing that major role.
For the lessons you will need an area to walk around. It doesn’t have to be a large area. Most living rooms have enough floor space if you move the coffee table. It is always a good idea to have water or a drink nearby so that you don’t have to leave the room.
This is a three hour intensive:
1st hour - Basic and advanced physical expression and reaction, Short lecture about application.
2nd hour - Applying skills to character development, Applying instant and lasting reaction skills to enhance your situation.
3rd hour - This hour will be dedicated to learning how to use your new found skills properly. How and when to range your expressions from gross exaggeration to micro moves. You will learn that the only way to be funny is to not be funny. (You’ll see.) You will get a short lesson on how to practice and strengthen your new skills. You will get recommendations of actors and comics to watch and learn to see their skills.
After learning and practicing these techniques you will be a stronger actor and have more confidence in your auditions.
