About Ivy

I earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Studies, a Master of Music in Keyboard Performance, and a PhD in Piano Pedagogy. During the last 13 years, I have worked with students of different ages and backgrounds, helping them develop technical ability, musical understanding, and confidence. My passion for piano began through performance experiences, collaborative music-making, and years of dedicated study. Teaching became a natural extension of that passion because I enjoy helping others discover the rewards of music. Supporting student growth remains one of the most fulfilling parts of my career.

My teaching philosophy combines structure with flexibility. Every learner has unique strengths and goals, so lessons are adapted to individual needs while maintaining clear objectives. Technical instruction is always connected to musical expression so that learning remains meaningful and enjoyable. Students receive encouragement, practical strategies, and personalized guidance throughout their development. This creates a positive environment where progress feels achievable.

Outside teaching, I enjoy accompanying performers, exploring new repertoire, and studying music education methods. These interests enrich my lessons and help keep learning engaging. Watching students achieve goals they once thought impossible is deeply rewarding. I strive to create lessons that are supportive, motivating, and effective. My goal is to help learners build lasting confidence and a lifelong love of music.

About the lesson

My piano lessons focus on helping students become confident and capable musicians from the very beginning. Learners develop finger independence, reading fluency, rhythm accuracy, hand coordination, dynamic control, ear training, and expressive performance skills through structured and engaging activities. I believe musical fluency develops when students actively connect technique, theory, and creativity. Lessons are designed to make learning enjoyable while building strong foundations that support long-term growth. This approach helps students progress with confidence and consistency.

Each student follows a personalized learning path that reflects their goals and interests. Activities may include duet playing, sight reading exercises, rhythm training, keyboard harmony, improvisation tasks, and performance preparation. Students interested in contemporary styles learn accompaniment techniques and practical musicianship skills, while others focus on classical repertoire and interpretation. Clear explanations and supportive feedback help learners improve steadily. This balanced approach encourages both technical development and musical enjoyment.

My goal is to help students become independent musicians who feel confident exploring new musical challenges. As skills improve, learners gain greater freedom to express themselves creatively and communicate through music. Lessons encourage discipline, curiosity, and self-belief. Every accomplishment contributes to stronger musicianship and personal growth. I want students to enjoy the journey while developing skills they can use throughout their lives.
