About Alistair

Music has been a major part of my life for many years, both as a performer and a teacher. I currently work professionally teaching music and have experience helping students develop confidence, creativity, and practical musicianship.

Alongside teaching, I regularly perform live and collaborate with other musicians in a variety of settings. My musical background is rooted in contemporary styles including jazz, blues, pop, soul, and songwriting, and I have spent years studying music theory and applying it in real-world performance situations.

As a teacher, I focus on making music accessible, enjoyable, and practical. I believe students learn best when they are actively making music rather than feeling overwhelmed by technical exercises or rigid methods. My aim is to help students build confidence at the piano, understand how music works, and develop the skills to play the songs they love.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or already have some experience, I look forward to helping you grow as a musician and enjoy the process of learning.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on helping students build a genuine connection with the piano through playing music they enjoy. I teach any age range, and from beginners to intermediate players. Rather than concentrating on grades, exams, or classical sight-reading, I teach practical skills that allow students to start making music quickly and confidently.

Each lesson is typically one hour long and is tailored to the individual student’s goals, interests, and experience level. Whether you want to accompany yourself singing, write your own songs, jam with friends, play in live settings, or simply learn your favourite songs, lessons will be adapted to help you get there.
