About Maya
I developed a passion for piano at a young age, captivated by the instrument’s expressive potential. Pursuing a B.A. in Music Performance deepened my understanding of technique, theory, and interpretive skills. Over 10 years of teaching, I have worked with learners ranging from complete beginners to advanced students, tailoring lessons to individual goals, learning styles, and musical interests. My approach combines structure, patience, and encouragement to foster growth and confidence. I believe that understanding why a movement or musical choice works is as important as executing it correctly. My teaching blends technical instruction with interpretive insight, ensuring students develop both competence and artistry. Lessons are designed to be engaging, motivating, and tailored to each learner’s pace, helping them experience consistent progress and artistic satisfaction. Beyond teaching, I remain actively engaged in performance, composition, and exploring new pedagogical methods. This ongoing exploration allows me to bring current techniques, repertoire, and insights into the classroom. Witnessing students develop their technical skill, interpretive ability, and personal musical voice is the most rewarding aspect of my career, and I strive to support each learner in realising their full potential.

Piano lessons start with proper posture, hand positioning, and understanding how finger movement affects sound production. Beginners learn note reading, basic rhythm patterns, and simple melodies to develop coordination between both hands. I emphasise the importance of repetition, patience, and mindful practice so learners gain confidence without feeling pressured. Lessons incorporate engaging exercises that keep students motivated while reinforcing technique and musical awareness. As learners advance, we focus on expressive phrasing, dynamic shaping, pedalling techniques, and interpretation of more complex compositions. Intermediate students build finger independence, explore diverse genres, and strengthen reading skills. Advanced learners work on artistic interpretation, performance readiness, and technical mastery, learning how to balance precision with expression. Lessons combine exercises, repertoire work, and creative exploration to develop both competence and musical intuition. Beyond technical skills, piano lessons nurture creativity, discipline, and emotional expression. Students discover how connecting with the instrument enhances focus, patience, and artistic confidence. By engaging in both structured exercises and expressive exploration, learners gain a deeper understanding of music as a language of emotion. My goal is to guide students towards becoming confident, expressive pianists capable of enjoying both practice and performance while developing a lifelong appreciation for music.
