About Glennise

Glennise Rabsatt is a gifted musician with over 25 years of experience, providing music instruction to students of various ages and levels. She has taught students from Elementary to Grade 12 in the public school system of the Virgin Islands (UK). She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Music from the University at Albany (SUNY) in New York, and a Master of Arts degree in Music Theory-Composition from Montclair State University in New Jersey. Confident in her foundation as a musical instructor, she has also taught and prepared numerous students for the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) examinations of which she too, has been a recipient of a Distinction in the Performance Grades. Playing the piano from the age of 5, and the clarinet from the age of 12, Glennise has also sang in church choirs and on praise teams, most of which she has taught and directed herself. She has also taught piano, voice, clarinet and music theory to students of all ages and levels. She deems music to be the “love of her life”, and receives the greatest joy when she gets to share her knowledge with others, and see their excitement when they attain their goals. She always aims to keep her lessons fun and upbeat, while at the same time, enlightening.

About the lesson

I will help you develop your theoretical musical understanding like: melody, rhythm, harmony, timbre, form etc. I will also help you develop your sight-reading, aural training, rhythmic skills and proper posture with your instrument.

I also encourage my students in disciplined practice habits, even using practice charts that aim to keep you accountable; as well as provide timely written progress reports as feedback, after each class.

Lessons almost always begin with assigned scales and Hanon exercises as warm-ups, before proceeding to other warm-up material (i.e. A Dozen A Day), then on to assigned pieces in the Lesson (and Performance) Books.

I will offer the best suggestions for learning materials (based on the student's desire), however, students are responsible for obtaining all method books and necessary supplies like pencils, a metronome etc.

While most students wish to adhere to the standard methods of learning music, with particular books etc., I am aware that there are also students who sometimes just want to learn to play (and sing!) without all of these. We can surely do this too! You are more than welcome to choose whatever you would like to learn, and we'll do it together! It can even by to play by ear! These lessons are all tailored to what you, as the student, desire.
