About Alex
I'm a theoretical physicist, currently based at University College London. In my research, I try to explore what happened in the first few moments after the Big Bang, and what this can tell us about the fundamental particles and forces from which the Universe is made. I really enjoy translating these ideas to students at all levels. I obtained my MSci and BA in Astrophysics (both 1st class) from the University of Cambridge, before moving to King's College London for a PhD in Theoretical Physics.

I have 10 years of experience as a private tutor, and for the past 6 years have taught students at UCL and King's College London. During this time I won a student-nominated King's Teaching Award recognising "extraordinary contributions" to teaching. I also provide private tutoring. I have helped my tutees boost their grades and get into prestigious universities such as Imperial and Warwick. My tutoring is always individually tailored to each student, with a focus on giving you the skills and the confidence you need to achieve your academic goals, whether that's at GCSE, A-level, IB, or university. I typically start by identifying the concepts that are causing difficulty, giving new explanations of these and linking them to your existing knowledge/interests. This is followed by guided problem-solving, in which the focus is not just on obtaining the right answer, but on building problem-solving skills and thinking like a scientist. In my experience, this is also the most enjoyable and effective way of boosting your grades!

Alex is a tutor who is a teacher of high ability. For example, he is very good at explaining concepts in a way that is easy to understand and remember. He also provides very helpful wider contexts to the subjects by teaching elements of the subject outside the curriculum.
