About Braxten

I graduated from Missouri State University in May 2025 with summa cum laude honors (4.0 GPA). My degree is in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Chemistry. I took some of the hardest classes for pre-med students: Org Chem 1 & 2, Biochemistry, Anatomy, and Grad-Level Physiology. I start PA school in Spring 2026 and have a flexible schedule to accommodate your time. While at Missouri State University, I was a supplemental instructor for BMS 110 (Introduction to Human Biology) for 1.5 years, a volunteer for the cadaveric anatomy lab, and later an instructor for BMS 111 (Introduction to Human Biology Lab) and BMS 231 (Human Genetic Lab).

About the lesson

I help undergraduate biology students with the following courses (* is preferred course to teach): Gen Bio 1 & 2, Organic Chemistry 1, Anatomy*, Physiology*, Genetics, or Biochemistry*.

As a tutor, I emphasize higher-level Bloom's taxonomy to help facilitate learning beyond pattern recognition. This includes enhancing critical thinking and problem solving skills using literature backed study techniques.

My first meeting is to learn more about the class your needing help with, your current study strategies, and your career or academic goals. From there, I start creating and familiarizing myself with the study material and lesson plans based off of your unique background. This includes making lesson plans but also the creation of personalized schedules to help you with time management and focus.

Each lesson, I will try to go over the material three times if your schedule allows for it.

The first phase of the lesson is what I call the learning phase; just becoming aware of terminology or techniques for the next step. This may be something as small as reviewing notes, the textbook, or flashcards briefly. This phase is the most diverse as its goal is to introduce material and also show you unique ways to structure notes or study techniques that promote active recall.

The second phase is the problem-solving phase. We will go over problems sets or practice problems to further enhance critical thinking and material retention that I make before the session.

The last phase is the teaching phase. I will have 4-5 big points that I want you to explain to me as if I was a student just learning the material. I will ask you questions to make sure your understanding is concrete.
