About Gemma
My teaching journey started when I was at university studying the performing arts. I freelanced as a dance and drama teacher for nursery and primary-aged children. Following that, I moved on to managing a tuition centre, teaching Maths and English. This then led me to train as a primary school teacher. Over the last few years, I have been working with children one-to-one on their learning at home, as well as small groups. I still teach and workshop drama and dance alongside core subjects, as the arts are an important part of creative thinking and expression. I am a parent as well as an educator and home educate my children. Giving children individualised learning programmes and supporting skills for learning, I believe are the keys to developing self-motivated strong learners. When I am not teaching or parenting, I perform for children. All my performance work is focused on developing imaginative play and confident collaborators. Fundamental internal life skills.

My methods are child-led and multi-sensory. For the first session, I will spend time getting to know the child and their relationship to the subject. When I have identified any barriers and motivations, then I develop a plan that is tailored to their learning needs. Lengths of sessions are dependent on the children 30-60 mins. I will take into account their age, time of day and what other commitments they have around the session, before recommending a length of session. I teach primary-aged children 4-11yrs, with the inclusion of school prep for early years. We can cover an array of subjects, with literacy and numeracy being the most popular subjects requested by parents.
