About Andrew
Hello, I’m Andrew Strachan, an English tutor, pronunciation coach, and former university lecturer. I hold a degree in English and a TEFL certificate, and I’ve been teaching since the early 1990s. My career has taken me from Istanbul, where I taught English and academic writing at Istanbul Technical University, to London, where I now teach both online and in person. Alongside my work with adult learners, I have extensive experience preparing pupils for independent and grammar school entrance exams, including 11+, 13+, and scholarship interviews. My students have been awarded places at some of the UK’s most selective schools, including: St Paul’s, Westminster, King’s College School, City of London, Latymer Upper, Godolphin and Latymer, Eton, Winchester, Harrow, Hampton, and others. My teaching combines academic rigour with a calm, encouraging style, helping students develop confidence in both spoken and written English. Whether it’s refining pronunciation and elocution, improving essay structure, or preparing for interviews and assessments, every lesson is tailored to the learner’s level, goals, and personality. I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate, and I’m fully committed to providing a safe, supportive, and professional learning environment for every student. My aim is simple: to help learners express themselves clearly, confidently, and intelligently — with English that sounds natural and assured.

Younger students preparing for independent and grammar school entrance exams (11+, 13+, and scholarship interviews). For adults, I focus on accent refinement, intonation, and speech clarity — helping you sound natural, professional, and at ease in English. For school applicants, lessons cover comprehension, essay writing, vocabulary development, verbal reasoning, and interview preparation. I believe every student learns best when lessons are tailored to their personality and goals. My teaching style is calm, structured, and encouraging, combining linguistic precision with real communication practice. I use authentic materials — short texts, exam papers, and recorded speech examples — and provide clear feedback so each learner knows exactly what to improve and how. Whether you’re aiming for Eton or elocution, you’ll receive personalised guidance that builds confidence, skill, and genuine enjoyment of the English language.
